The top legal official in Texas Paxton is filing a lawsuit against the makers of Tylenol, claiming the firms hid potential risks that the medication created to children's brain development.

This legal action follows four weeks after President Donald Trump advocated an unverified association between taking Tylenol - also known as acetaminophen - during pregnancy and autism in children.

Paxton is taking legal action against Johnson & Johnson, which previously sold the medication, the exclusive pain medication approved for pregnant women, and Kenvue, which now manufacturers it.

In a declaration, he said they "betrayed America by making money from suffering and marketing drugs regardless of the potential hazards."

The company asserts there is insufficient reliable data connecting Tylenol to autism spectrum disorder.

"These companies misled for generations, deliberately risking numerous people to line their pockets," Paxton, from the Republican party, said.

The manufacturer said in a statement that it was "very worried by the perpetuation of misinformation on the reliability of acetaminophen and the likely effects that could have on the welfare of American women and children."

On its official site, the company also mentioned it had "consistently assessed the applicable studies and there is lacking reliable evidence that shows a established connection between consuming acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder."

Associations acting on behalf of physicians and healthcare providers concur.

ACOG has stated acetaminophen - the main ingredient in Tylenol - is among limited choices for expectant mothers to treat pain and elevated temperature, which can create significant medical dangers if left untreated.

"In over twenty years of investigation on the utilization of paracetamol in gestation, zero credible investigations has successfully concluded that the use of paracetamol in any stage of gestation leads to neurological conditions in offspring," the organization stated.

The court filing cites latest statements from the former administration in claiming the medication is reportedly hazardous.

Last month, Trump caused concern from health experts when he instructed expectant mothers to "fight like hell" not to consume acetaminophen when ill.

Federal regulators then issued a notice that medical professionals should contemplate reducing the consumption of acetaminophen, while also mentioning that "a direct connection" between the drug and autism spectrum disorder in minors has not been proven.

The Health Department head Robert F Kennedy Jr, who supervises the FDA, had pledged in April to undertake "comprehensive study program" that would determine the source of autism spectrum disorder in a short period.

But specialists cautioned that discovering a unique factor of autism - believed by scientists to be the consequence of a complex mix of genetic and external influences - would not be simple.

Judicial authorities dismissed the case, saying investigations from the family's specialists was not conclusive.
