The network's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
