Seamer Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Problems.

'Significant concern' for the touring side as Atkinson is forced off suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson further complicated the injury concerns plaguing England when he left the ground early on day two in the Melbourne Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his left hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over at the MCG.

The England team stated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and would spend time away from the action to undergo evaluation "during the day".

The final Test in this Ashes battle in Sydney begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The English side has already lost key quicks one seamer to a knee injury and another paceman with an abdominal strain on the current trip.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as injury reinforcement.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs with the bat being one of only three English batsmen who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell in Australia's second innings, he returned the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, at the end of the fifth over, he delivered a slower ball to Travis Head and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the Melbourne match following his omission of the third.
