The celebrated British actress Helen Mirren, already recipient of an Oscar statuette, four Baftas, Globes trophies, multiple Emmy accolades, plus a Tony, will soon receive another major award to her trophy case: the DeMille Globes' lifetime achievement award.

Ceremony Details

The actress, 80, who was made a dame during 2003 and named a BAFTA fellow back in 2014, will receive the award in a ceremony on 8 January, just prior to the primary Globes ceremony are held, within a ceremony promoted by the Golden Globes as the “Golden Eve”.

This will also include the awarding of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett award for television achievement, the honoree for which remains unannounced. Last year’s winners were Viola Davis along with Ted Danson.

“Mirren stands as an unstoppable talent, and her career is truly remarkable,” stated the Golden Globes president, Helen Hoehne. “Her captivating roles and devotion to her art constantly motivate generations of artists and audiences alike. It’s a tremendous privilege to bestow upon her this lifetime achievement honor.”

Career Highlights

The star became well-known back in the 70s with key roles on stage in London’s theater district and with the RSC as well as in movies including O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

In the 1990s, her prominent part in the crime series Prime Suspect increased her popularity significantly. Other important films feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.

She earned an Academy Award for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 movie The Queen, a role she revisited in 2013 in The Audience, the theatrical work from Peter Morgan about the meetings involving the monarch and premier Margaret Thatcher, a performance for which she earned a Tony back in 2015.

Current and Forthcoming Appearances

• Later-career movies feature Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, for which she provided narration.
• Her performance in the Netflix version for The Thursday Murder Club has received positive reviews and awards buzz is increasing around her performance as an ailing family head in Kate Winslet’s initial directorial project, Goodbye June.
• Next year, Mirren will be seen portraying Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s drama, Switzerland.

Globes nominations will be declared on the eighth of December, featuring the film by Paul Thomas Anderson One Battle After Another, Zhao’s Hamnet along with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners likely to receive multiple nominations.
