Dominant Aryna Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive season.
The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Statistics
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and earned a record £11m in tournament winnings.
She garnered almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Winners
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
