Rock Climbing in the Peak District
Even complete beginners will rapidly be scaling protected Peak District outcrops on this weekend program. Learners will learn tying in, safety techniques and several methods of ascent, plus abseiling down. Capped at six learners to each tutor, there is plenty of one-on-one guidance and custom goals. Abstract Painting in Spain
This historic hillside village, a historic white village in southern Spain, approximately 45 minutes’ drive from Granada, is the stimulating backdrop for this art retreat. Painters of all abilities – including beginners – will be taught how to plan and create modern art. Part of the schedule will be spent in the open air, working on guided exercises en plein air. These initial charcoal drawings and watercolour studies will then be developed in the workspace, with guests producing multiple abstract landscapes in acrylic paint to be displayed in the village. Participants has exclusive access of the hotel, which is centered on an open courtyard and has a rooftop with panoramic vistas over the countryside. The cost covers five days’ painting tuition; full board; and an excursion to the nearby fortress and additional points of interest.

Ottolenghi-Inspired Culinary in Portugal
This Mediterranean foodie getaway, based at a riverside villa in the central Portuguese region, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of celebrated cooks. Participants will master the art of selection of small dishes, take part in a hands-on falafel session, perfect brunch dishes such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses including a rich mushroom stew and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the village market and a nearby winery to taste Portuguese wines, plus free time for strolls by the Funcho River, to unwind on the deck or take a dip in the pool. The accommodation, a renovated rural property, has five bedrooms, as well as glamping tents in the gardens.

Maritime Singing Break in Cornwall
This coastal town is the excellent spot for a sea shanty weekend. Participants will be taught traditional shanties from a experienced musician, and have a go at composing original ones. There will be vocal warmups, breathing exercises, performance tips and a closing performance. The holiday is based at a country house overlooking St Ives Bay. Full board are provided, such as a traditional tea on arrival, breakfast options, packed lunches and evening meals. Traditional rum, alas, is not included. Writing in Crete
Writer and tutor an experienced instructor runs the regular sessions on this writing retreat. He explores everything from plot, characters, locations and suspense, to sending manuscripts to agents. Greg’s wife, the bestselling author Kate Mosse, will co-host events at the beginning and end of the week. The holiday is held at a traditional complex in Vamos at the base of the White mountains – ten one- and two-bedroom cottages surround a garden and pool (companions are encouraged to come along).
